2009 VOS Juneteenth Celebration

Once again we invite you to join us for the 2010 Valley of the Sun Juneteenth Festival & Heritage Celebration.  This year’s festival includes several guest speakers against the backdrop of music & dance, sports activities, entertainment and vendors booths. This year, more so than ever, should be cherished by all and remembered only to make us stronger.  As a people, we have long given America our blood, sweat and tears.  At every call our nation have made, from the Civil War to Iraq, we have responded.  We have proven time and time again that we are a strong people.  When we stand together, we are stronger.

When President Lincoln signed into law the Emancipation Proclamation, he gave all African Americans their freedom “hence now and forever free” no matter what happens. In 2008, Americans from all walks of life, nationalities and races came together to elect Barack Obama, the first African American President of the United States of America. This indeed gives us something to celebrate that should be looked upon as an honor and tribute we show to our forefathers that were slaves.  It should be a time for remembering that a high cost had been paid by our more recent ancestors who won our Civil Rights for us today.
