2009 VOS Juneteenth Celebration

Just as nearby South Mountain Park is a cherished Phoenix landmark, its namesake - South Mountain Community College (SMCC) – is also a Phoenix tradition.  SMCC is one of ten colleges in the Maricopa Community College District . 

On April 18, 1978, the district's governing board created the college to provide higher education opportunities for the communities in southern Maricopa County.  SMCC, which consisted of thirteen buildings built in 1980, began offering classes at their new college.
